Ones To Watch: Dezso by Sara Beltrán

Imagine that your job were to scour the markets of Jaipur, India, for fossil shells that are more than a million years old to fashion for your jewelry collection.  Such is the case for Sara Beltrán, the creator of Dezso.  Her company began in 2010 as a contemporary line with colorful cotton friendship bracelets adorned with silver or gold shark teeth.  Since then, Beltrán  has continued to hone her craft and now spends the majority of her time working with fossils, rose gold, coral, pietersite, tanzanite, kyanite and polki diamonds (which are naturally mined, uncut and rough).

The sophisticated but wearable pieces in the collection are sold worldwide at Barneys New York, Forty Five Ten in Dallas, Roseark in Los Angeles, Muse in Luxembourg, Liberty in London as well as at Ron Herman, Restir and The Secret Closet, all in Tokyo and range in price from $100 (not bad for jewelry) to $16,000 (way out of my price range).  Check out a few of them below.  You can also see the full Dezso collection online at http://www.dezsosara.com
